This Vintage 11" Oval Serve Dish was made by Mappin & Webb Silversmiths in 1961.
The bottom of the dish is stamped with the broad arrow symbol which signifies that this dish was made for use in the dining rooms of the British "Ministry of Defence."
We came upon 3 of these classic, collectible pieces of vintage European hotel silver.
They're the perfect vessel for a side dish on a buffet or the dining table, for passing warm rolls at dinner, filled with a colorful crudité for an appetizer, or for berries and cookies at dessert.
We've been known to serve Chinese take-out in similarly fashioned silver oval serve dishes to make eating in from a favorite restaurant all the more of an occasion.
The streamlined design of this dish sits comfortably with both traditional or contemporary table settings and is a serving piece that will be reached for again and again when entertaining.
The vintage offerings in our curated collection of European hotel silver and barware are restored and re-plated in 98% pure silver in London by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
