These vintage collectible oval divided dishes are from a stash of silver from British Railways' restaurant rail car service that began in 1879. After more than a century of fine meals served to dapperly-dressed passengers seated at tables with starched white linen, the railway closed their dining cars in 2011.
Originally used to serve cooked vegetables, we love these divided dishes today for crudité, shrimp and cocktail sauce, chips & guacamole, assorted cookies at dessert time, and berries at brunch. The uses are endless.
Each vintage dish sports the iconic badge of British Railways.
The vintage offerings in our collection are restored and re-plated in pure silver in London for us by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
