Vintage Pedestal, J. Lyons & Co, Ltd. Tea Shops, London

We adore this vintage pedestal, made for J. Lyons & Co, Ltd,  which launched its first tea shop in Piccadilly in 1894.  They opened several tea shops, hotels and restaurants throughout London through the 1970's. 

This pedestal, circa 1930's, sports the signature hefty weight of vintage European hotel silver - made to withstand daily use in bustling commercial establishments. Its faceted pedestal design is a nod to their restaurants' handsome Art Deco interiors.

It's the perfect size to serve chocolates with tea or after dinner, as a chic stand for a candle or potted leafy plant. It was also used  to elevate platters on a buffet to add height and interest - a practical way to add a bit of silver chic when entertaining.

This is a true collectible from a bygone era.

We only have two of these special pieces.

The vintage offerings in our collection are restored and re-plated in pure silver in London for us by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
