This Vintage Bread Dish, circa 1930's, sports the elegant monogram "PSNC" of the Pacific Steam Navigation Company.

This British shipping company, established in 1840, was the first to operate sea routes for mail and cargo from England to South America's Pacific Coast. It became the first commercial shipping fleet in the Pacific and grew to be the largest commercial merchant line in the world in the 1870's.

Mappin & Webb Silversmiths crafted this dish to be used in the dining rooms aboard their small fleet of deluxe ocean liners which launched in the early 1900's.  Its a serving piece from a bygone era of elegant oceanic travel before air transportation became an option.

The dish carries the signature weight of coveted, collectible vintage European hotel silver; designed to withstand everyday use in bustling venues and beautifully re-plated in pure silver in London for us - bringing it back to its former glory.

We particularly adore the geometric Deco detailing along the rim of the dish and its appealing shape.

While designed for serving warm rolls served with a starched white cloth, we love to use vintage bread dishes to serve pastries, berries, cookies or colorful crudité.  It makes a chic accessory for a desk filled with favorite stationery, on a table in an entry foyer for mail - or aas a chic vessel atop a vanity filled with rolled hand towels.

The vintage offerings in our collection of European hotel silver & barware are restored and re-plated in pure silver in London by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
