This Vintage 4-Slice Toast Rack with the stamp of "E II R" is a true collectible. The insignia on the base of the toast rack is the royal "cypher" or monogram of Queen Elizabeth, II.
The "E" stands for Elizabeth, the "II" signifies the second Elizabeth of the throne of England. The "R" stands for Regina - the Latin word meaning "Queen in her own right."
The Queen's monogram was included on silver serve pieces throughout her time on the throne. Some of the silver was made to be used on many of the royal trains and yachts while others were made by renowned silversmiths in honor of the Queen's jubilees - celebrations of her sovereign reign.
Originally designed to serve toast at breakfast, we love toast racks on a desk to hold favorite cards and stationery, for folded linen napkins at tea or cocktail time. Even to hold individual large cookies at dessert time.
The vintage offerings in our collection are restored and re-plated in pure silver in London for us by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
