This charming Vintage Card Tray hails from the Piccadilly Hotel in London. The historic hotel's crown insignia and name are engraved on the tray's bed.
The Piccadilly opened its doors to great fanfare in 1908 and drew guests from "upper crust" Edwardian society and royal patronage from King George V.
We adore the diminutive size of this tray with its distinctive ribbon and reed rim.
Originally used for elegantly presenting a bill or correspondence to a guest, the tray is perfectly sized to hold calling cards, business cards, or to serve as as an elegant catch-all for jewelry on a bedside table or vanity. It would be a beautiful way to serve chocolate truffles at dessert for a small gathering.
While restored and re-plated in London for us by our longtime silversmith, the lettering of the original engraving is a bit faint and there's a soft patina present from its history of use.
It's one of those "must have" pieces of collectible vintage European hotel silver - a keepsake from the 1920's and 1930's - The era's "Grand Tour" which included London as a hub and hot spot of jazz culture, high-end hospitality, West End theater productions and nightlife.
The vintage offerings in our collection are restored and re-plated in pure silver in London by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
