This Vintage Tureen, circa 1930's, caught our eye due to its appealing oval shape, ribbon & reed trimmed handles and the laurel wreathed "D" monogram of the iconic Dorchester Hotel in London. The hotel opened its doors on Park Lane in Mayfair in 1931 and continues to draw illustrious guests to its deluxe property almost a century later.

This serving piece was used in the elegant restaurants of the Dorchester by Elkington Silversmiths, renowned for their craftsmanship of high-end hotel serve ware.

While re-plated in London by our longtime silversmith, this tureen still sports the patina of its history of service.  The "D" monogram is fainter than when it was first crafted, but still prominent.

Today, we envision using this fabulous serving piece at home for both hot and chilled soups, chili, pasta - even as a vessel to serve a decadent dessert of chilled chocolate mousse.

Remove the lid, fill with ice and it becomes a stunning chiller for a few bottles of wine. When filled with pots of ivy or planted with orchids and moss, it becomes a chic cache pot.

It looks great filled with fruit on a kitchen counter or as a centerpiece.  And, it's appealing shape adds interest to open shelving.

It's a truly coveted, collectible piece of vintage European hotel silver - a keepsake from an era of elegant travel.

The vintage offerings in our collection are restored and re-plated in pure silver in London for us by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
