This Vintage Sauce Boat, bearing the crest of the Royal Mail Lines, makes a statement on a buffet or table top due to its size and appealing streamlined profile.
This particular sauce boat, circa 1930's, was made for the first class dining rooms and officers' quarters of the Royal Mail Lines' deluxe ocean liners. Royal Mail Lines (formerly Royal Mail Steam Packet Company) was a prominent fleet of ships that included mail carrier ships and elegant passenger ocean liners whose interiors, food and wine rivaled the grandeur of the finest hotels in London and Paris at the time.
Today. we use sauce boats to serve gravy as well as hot fudge or freshly whipped cream at dessert, delicious dips for crudité and warmed maple syrup at breakfast time.
When not in use for entertaining, we love to keep vintage sauce boats on open kitchen shelving for their sculptural appeal.
It's a true collectible piece of vintage European hotel silver from the golden age of deluxe transatlantic travel.
The vintage offerings in our collection of European hotel silver & barware are restored and re-plated in pure silver in London for us by our longtime silversmiths. Even with restoration, some of the pieces may sport more patina than others due to their unique history and use which we think only adds to their character and allure.
