Vintage "Spreader", CIGA, Italy

This Vintage Knife is from the silver fish service flatware used in one of the legendary Italian CIGA hotel properties. 

Founded in 1906 in Venice, the CIGA (Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi) set the standard for luxury travel accommodations in Italy.  Some of the renowned hotels in the portfolio included the iconic Danieli, The Gritti and The Excelsior in Venice, The Principe di Savoia in Milan and The Cristallo in the alpine destination of Cortina. 

The finish is smooth in the hand and reveals the elegant patina from its unique history of service.  A keepsake for sure. Full of charm and character.

Today, we love to use vintage fish knives as "spreaders" on a charcuterie board to serve soft cheese and paté.  It adds a touch of silver elegance at breakfast for jams and softened butters. A piece that one will reach for again and again.

CIGA is stamped on the back of the graceful  handle.  We have 2 of these treasures available in our cache of "perfectly imperfect" vintage European hotel silver that we've been collecting for decades.
